Inevitable Alphabet

"The ‘Inevitable Alphabet’ is a journey consisting of large posters with hand-drawn imagery and photography, with objects typically associated with the elderly e.g. Z = Zimmerframe. My aim is to break through stereotypical ideas of old age in order to encourage younger people to mix with the age group."

 

Hats Animated CV

For me, writing doesn’t come easy so when compiling information about myself into a CV format, I may not come across as well on paper, than in real life. The idea of an animated CV is a solution to my weakness. I would be able to use my creative knowledge to express my personality traits, skills and achievements through motion, opposed to on paper. 

Final Year Project

“In 1995 there were 300 people aged 100+ in the UK. By 2031, it is estimated that the figure could boom to 36,000”

 

Although this is something to be celebrated, it is none the less the case that more and more elderly people will live alone. This will lead to social isolation amongst the elderly becoming the biggest issue facing Britain. Potentially the elderly have a lot to offer if they are engaged and active. My forth year study tries to encourage this, reminding people that one day we too will be old. 

Rose Tinted Glasses

If someone looks through rose tinted glasses, they see only the pleasant parts of it. Much like how we remember somebody once they have passed away. The pleasant parts of their lives are the ones we remember vividly.

 

“Everyone must leave something behind when he dies, my grandfather said. A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, your there.”

 

My animation and photography focus on the meaning of objects. How much do our belongings represent us? Do they remain more valuable than the people who once owned them and continue to live on, even though the person is no longer alive?
